The difficulty is not in letting go. Forgetting is inevitable. Maybe not today, but someday. We all forget. The people we could not imagine our lives without, fade into oblivion.
The difficulty is embracing that everything will eventually be in the past. To think that all those days and months and years that we invested caring about someone will cease to haunt us one day; is heartbreaking.
Accepting that new habits will replace the old; tattered, bygone memories would be shoved to a corner to make room for the new ones; is daunting.
It is perhaps because of this arduous task of acceptability that we end up gluing on to people who closely resemble our ruins of yesterday.
